Royal Balloon · Göreme
Royal Balloon picks you up before dawn, gives you breakfast and flies you for about an hour over the valleys around Göreme, landing on a trailer for sparkling wine and a medal. It doesn't visit Uchisar Castle; pick it for the most-reviewed balloon flight in Cappadocia and a basket smaller than the local average.

Royal Balloon is one of the big Cappadocia operators, and this listing has more than 8,500 reviews on Viator. The day starts at about 4:30 with a minibus at your hotel and a light breakfast at the company's base while the pilots choose a take-off field by wind direction. Then you watch the crew inflate the balloon, climb in and lift off as the sun comes up. Balloons climb to about 300 m and drift where the wind goes, over valleys such as Red, Rose or Monks Valley, so there's no fixed route and no stop at Uchisar Castle. After landing it's sparkling wine, strawberries and a medal, and you're back at the hotel by about 8:00 or 9:00.
The price needs reading twice. The headline is $115, and the Viator page data adds a mandatory extra charge of $33.89 per person, so expect about $148 at checkout. The booking is non-refundable: if you cancel or change, you lose the money. Weather is the other risk. Every morning the civil aviation authority's slot centre posts a daily flag published by SHM Kapadokya for each flying sector: red or yellow means no balloon may take off, and on green the final call rests with the pilot and the company. Guests whose flight was grounded report being offered another morning or a refund, which is why you book your first morning in Cappadocia and keep the next ones free.
The options set the basket size. Royal Balloon's own flight page lists the Royal Queen at 20 to 24 passengers, the Queen Plus at 16 at most and the Royal King at 8 to 12, each basket split into four compartments. One guest on a standard flight counted 17 in the basket and said she'd have paid much more for half that; two King guests flew with 8. The Viator overview talks of a 1-hour or 75-minute flight, while Royal's own page gives 60 minutes for all three, so treat the King as the roomier choice rather than the longer one.
A minivan collects you from your hotel in the dark. Times shift with the season; the operator confirms yours the evening before.
Light breakfast with coffee or tea at Royal's base while the pilots wait for the flag and pick a launch field.
At the field you watch fans fill the envelope, then the burners stand it up. Short safety briefing, then you climb into your compartment.
Up to about 300 m and down into the valleys as the sun rises, with dozens of other balloons around you on a good morning.
The pilot sets the basket down on the trailer. Sparkling wine, strawberries and your flight medal while the crew packs up.
The minivan takes you back, early enough to join a day tour or sleep.
★★★★★We chose the king tour so only 8 of us which was amazing. Our pilot was friendly, funny and made us feel so safe. Amazing ground crew who were ready and waiting helping the smooth landing onto back of trailer. Then champagne and strawberries while watching them quickly pack and wrap the balloon.
★★★★★Very very good experience. Timely pick up at 5 am, nice breakfast at 5:15 and timely take off at 5:50. 1 hour flying time with a great pilot Gorkem. Nice champagne to top it off. Highly recommended!!
★★★★★Great experience, first one got cancelled due to wind but we were able to reschedule for the next day. Royal Balloon is a very professional company.
★★★★★Spring for the king ride. We had 8 people total which gave us plenty of space to take pictures. For 20 euros, you can buy pictures and videos from outside the balloon which are worth it.

No. The Viator listing is non-refundable and can't be changed for any reason once booked. If the flight is grounded by the authorities or the pilot for weather, guests report being offered another morning or a refund. That's different from you cancelling.
From $115 per person on Viator, plus a mandatory extra charge of $33.89, so about $148 at checkout for the standard option. The King option with 8 to 12 passengers costs more. Photos and video are extra: one guest paid €20.
The civil aviation authority's slot centre in Cappadocia posts a flag for each flying sector every morning. Red or yellow means no take-off. Green allows flights, and the pilot and company make the final decision. Winter mornings are grounded far more often than summer ones.
Not on purpose. The pilots choose a take-off field each morning by wind direction and the balloon goes where the wind takes it, usually over the valleys around Göreme. Uchisar is the highest point in the area, so it's often on the horizon. See our balloon guide for the best viewpoints on the ground.
